Ángela Del Rosario
Ángela is the single mother of two children, who she has provided for on her own. She has worked as an employee in various school stores and school cafeterias in the area, preparing the fried foods that they sell there. At present she works with a brother as a seller in an electrical appliance store and also works weekends selling fried food and fast food, a business she runs out of her house. Here, she works Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 5:00 to 10:00 PM. In this way she is able to supplement her income to meet her household's needs.

Her strength, dedication and perseverance motivated her to request the support of a loan to purchase kitchen utensils (ladles, pots, cruets and other items), and wholesale supplies (vegetables, meat, chicken, oil, cold cuts, salsas and other items). With these she will be able to swap out the utensils that are in poor condition and prepare the food with proper hygiene and image in mind so guests feel more comfortable consuming her products. This way she may attract new customers, which would increase her sales and the income she receives for her work.

Ángela dreams of setting up her business in a more strategic location with more people. This would allow her to achieve economic stability, continue to provide for her home and to be able to enjoy a better quality of life in the company of her children.

Important Information

This loan is structured on Kiva as a bullet loan, which means a single payment is required at the end of the loan term. By Colombian law, Kiva's partner Interactuar is required to offer borrowers loans with a variable interest rate that fluctuates with the market rate. Because fixed monthly payments are applied first to interest and then to principal, Interactuar is unable to predict upfront what portion of each repayment would go towards the loan principal. This creates a challenge with Kiva's system, which doesn't allow for unpredictable principal payments, and can result in some Interactuar clients appearing falsely delinquent. To remedy this, the loan has an end-of-term repayment plan on Kiva, but the borrower will continue scheduled monthly repayments to Interactuar, who will then pass along the principal amount to Kiva lenders. This means that you may see repayments made on this loan throughout the repayment term, as opposed to receiving repayment in full at the end of the loan term.
