Hen is 53 years old and the mother of six children, three of whom still count on her currently. To overcome her family’s hardship, she does paddy rice farming and sells porridge in the local area of Kampong Cham province’s Tbaung Khmum district. It is a business that she has managed since she was 20 years old and it has returned her about 10 USD per day, and about 6 USD per day after taking off the necessary expenses.

Hen is in her second loan cycle as a client with VisonFund (Kiva’s partner). The past loan, which she has fully paid back, has supported her business and stabilized her living conditions quickly.

Besides her business, she wants to focus on her kids' future, too. Hence, she applied for an education loan to cover the tuition fees for her daughter, who wants to pursue a bachelor degree majoring in Civil Engineering. She hopes that her daughter can reach her dream and get a good job after graduation.

About VisionFund Cambodia

VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.

Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
