Fred is 47 years old and lives in the town of Kayunga which lies in the region of Mukono in Uganda. He is married and has 5 children who are all currently in school. For the past 3 years, Fred has been working hard to manage his retail shop, which sells beans, maize flour, and rice.
To help expand his business, Fred has requested a loan of 2,500,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more household goods, and will help Fred to generate greater profits and allow for business expansion. Fred hopes that in the future he will be able to stock more quality products.
Fred is a member of BRAC's Small Enterprise Program (SEP). The program primarily serves small entrepreneurs like Fred who do not have enough collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown too large for microloans.
