Alfredo Antonio
Alfredo, 52, is a street vendor. He sells different items in the area where he lives, visiting also surrounding villages. He works Monday to Saturday, selling clothes and shoes for women, men and children. He learned by doing, due to a financial crisis his family suffered. His family is composed of his wife and two children. He did not have a job and could not provide for them.

He is now requesting a loan to buy clothes in bulk (jeans, t-shirts, sports shoes, sandals, blouses, etc.). This way, he will have a wider variety to offer to his clients and satisfy their different tastes and needs. This will result in an improvement on the income he receives from his sales, especially during this time of the year, when the demand is higher.

Alfredo wants to continue working to improve the well-being of his family. He also dreams of having a well-known, profitable and sustainable shop, so he can leave his children a good legacy and enjoy the fruits of his labor together with his family.

Important Information

This loan is structured on Kiva as a bullet loan, which means a single payment is required at the end of the loan term. By Colombian law, Kiva's partner Interactuar is required to offer borrowers loans with a variable interest rate that fluctuates with the market rate. Because fixed monthly payments are applied first to interest and then to principal, Interactuar is unable to predict upfront what portion of each repayment would go towards the loan principal. This creates a challenge with Kiva's system, which doesn't allow for unpredictable principal payments, and can result in some Interactuar clients appearing falsely delinquent. To remedy this, the loan has an end-of-term repayment plan on Kiva, but the borrower will continue scheduled monthly repayments to Interactuar, who will then pass along the principal amount to Kiva lenders. This means that you may see repayments made on this loan throughout the repayment term, as opposed to receiving repayment in full at the end of the loan term.
