Blanca Nora
Blanca is a married woman and the mother of 2 children. She became involved in business about 20 years ago because her family was facing financial difficulties due to lack of resources. She decided to begin selling merchandise on credit, on foot, and little by little she began gaining more customers. Her main challenge was to locate customers when it came time to collect, so she decided to open a store 13 years ago, where she offers products such as men’s and women’s clothing, toys, accessories, personal products, and other things. She can serve customers more comfortably and also has the advantage of being able to exhibit her products. This has allowed her to generate sufficient income to pay for basic household needs. Her drive, charisma and dedication have allowed her to surpass various obstacles, and this has brought her to where she is today.

Now, at her 49 years, she is asking for her first loan so she can buy merchandise in quantity (toys, Christmas decorations, accessories, and other things). This way she will have a stock to satisfy her customers’ different needs and likes, and help increase her sales and the benefits she gets from them. This way Blanca can have the opportunity to grow her business and expand into other sectors, which will mean achieving her main dream. In the mean time she will continue working arduously so she can provide her children with better wellbeing and enjoy a better quality of life alongside those she loves.

Important Information

This loan is structured on Kiva as a bullet loan, which means a single payment is required at the end of the loan term. By Colombian law, Kiva's partner Interactuar is required to offer borrowers loans with a variable interest rate that fluctuates with the market rate. Because fixed monthly payments are applied first to interest and then to principal, Interactuar is unable to predict upfront what portion of each repayment would go towards the loan principal. This creates a challenge with Kiva's system, which doesn't allow for unpredictable principal payments, and can result in some Interactuar clients appearing falsely delinquent. To remedy this, the loan has an end-of-term repayment plan on Kiva, but the borrower will continue scheduled monthly repayments to Interactuar, who will then pass along the principal amount to Kiva lenders. This means that you may see repayments made on this loan throughout the repayment term, as opposed to receiving repayment in full at the end of the loan term.
