Marija is 45 years old and lives in a minority community of Kosovo. She is married and a mother of two children, one boy and one girl. Her husband receives a pension. Based on tradition, Marija works in agriculture. For quite some time now, she has been growing wheat and corn on her own and her neighbor's land. She then sells the crops that she harvests in her area in order to make a living.

Now Marija is in need of a loan to purchase a new tractor and trailer needed to plow and harvest the land. Since she is able to support her family through her business, she hopes that this loan will help her family attain a better quality of life. She hopes to continue earning her own living and not having to ask others for money or rely on others for assistance. Marija wants to thank all of the Kiva lenders!

More information about this loan

This loan will support the economic aspirations of minority people in Kosovo. Roma people and ethnic Serbians have historically faced a tremendous amount of hardship in Kosovo, and are still socioeconomically and politically vulnerable. During the 1998-1999 war, the fighting displaced 250,000 people. Among those displaced were an estimated 80-90% of the region’s Roma population. Today, Roma and ethnic Serbians living in Kosovo still face discrimination and are excluded from many aspects of society, including fair political representation and high rates of unemployment. By supporting this loan you are helping provide opportunity to marginalized populations.
