Sory is a mother in her early-mid 40s residing in the Kampong Cham province. She is a local farmer who grows rice and cucumbers as her primary source of income with support from her husband. She has been involved in this business for more than 20 years. Nowadays, she has three kids and all of them still need her support; one of her children is studying in local university. Since the education cost of tertiary level is quite high, she decided to take out an education loan from VisionFund (Kiva’s partner) instead. She will spend the entire loan portion to cover her daughter’s school fees as well as to buy a decent computer to support her study. She hopes that her daughter will have a bright future and get a good job after graduation.

About VisionFund Cambodia

VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.

Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
