Lilian is 36 years old and is a real fighter with many hopes and dreams for her four children, three of whom are in different grades in primary school. The oldest one is the only one who is involved with his parents. Lilian, together with her husband, has been working in the field of coffee growing for the past 9 years, but it was her parents who taught her how to work the land and develop the various skills involved. She has had six years of education thanks to the financial and moral support of her parents, despite the different situations they experienced when she was young.

The land she cultivates with her son and husband was inherited from her parents and is located 300 meters from the house she lives in. They travel either on foot or by horse or donkey to tend their crops. Lilian is currently requesting a loan from the COMIXMUL cooperative to buy fertilizer, liquid plant food, coffee formula, etc. to take care of their coffee crops because the family's finances depend on agriculture. It is essential for them to have a good harvest at the end of the season.

Her future plans are to be able to improve her coffee crops, growing a better variety, and to be able to strengthen the heritage for her children. Her dreams are to be able to give her children a good future and a good education because that is the best legacy that she could hand down - that they are successful in the future.

More information about this loan

These loans are designed for female farmers who produce a variety of products (onion, garlic, eggplant, spinach, mango, strawberries, etc.). Loan terms will vary depending on need, and borrowers can choose to make a "bullet" payment timed with harvest profits. Agricultural loans are considered risky in Honduras due to external forces like unpredictable weather and worldwide crop prices. As a result, many traditional financial institutions are unwilling to offer these loans. With Kiva funding, COMIXMUL will be able to reach more borrowers with agricultural loans tailored to their needs.
