Houevo Appoline never attended school. She is a widow and has two dependent children, one of whom is in school. In order to provide for her children, Houevo Appoline has been selling snacks (made of wheat flour and sugar) as a street vendor and out of her home for 15 years. Houevo Appoline stocks up at a market in Benin. With the goal of bolstering her business, Houevo Appoline, together with the other members of the Mawule group, is seeking her second loan from ALIDé. Their prior loan has been duly repaid.

Le groupe MAWULE est composé de six personnes qui résident dans le même quartier. La représentante du groupe, nommée Houevo Appoline (celle qui a la main levée sur la photo) est âgée de 53 ans. Houevo Appoline n'a pas fréquenté l'école. Houevo Appoline est veuve avec deux enfants, dont un scolarisé et tous à sa charge. Houevo Appoline vit seule avec ses enfants. Les charges du ménage sont supportées par Houevo Appoline. Pour répondre aux besoins de ses enfants, dame Houevo Appoline vend des casses croûte (fait à base de farine de blé et du sucre) de façon ambulante et à son domicile depuis quinze ans. Houevo Appoline s'approvisionne dans un marché du Bénin. Dans le but de renforcer son activité, Houevo Appoline s’associe aux autres membres du groupe MAWULE pour solliciter un deuxième crédit auprès de ALIDé. Le prêt antérieur a été bien remboursé.

Alidé is a Beninese NGO that works to reduce poverty by offering sustainable access to productive loans like this one in addition to savings, training sessions, and social work to low-income families.

Supporters of this loan should be aware that there is some risk of being repaid late. Because the Beninois Ministry of Finance has imposed restrictions on the amount of money Alidé can send to Kiva, the organization can only send monthly repayments in installments smaller than $13,000. This means that some Kiva lenders may receive their repayments late. However, Alidé remains a healthy institution in good standing with its creditors, and Kiva would like to continue working to support its clients.
