He has been running a business of selling charcoal for three years now. He works from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily and is able to make a good monthly profit.
This will be Charles's eighth loan from Tujijenge Tanzania. He used the previous loans to open a small shop for fruits and vegetables and to increase on charcoal stock whenever he got a new loan. He has paid back all his loans successfully. He used the profit to pay school fees, buy a TV set and a radio, and pay household expenses. He will use this loan to buy more sacks of charcoal to resell. He dreams of opening a cosmetics shop.
Charles will share this loan with his loan group, "Starlight," which has ten members who will hold each other accountable for paying back the loan.

This is a Group Loan
In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.
Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
