Valentina
Valentina is a widow with two grown children. She lives alone in her own house, occupying two rooms with brick walls and a dirt floor. Her house is located in the Palomar neighborhood in the City of La Paz.

Valentina dedicates herself full-time to her agricultural activities, as this is the only source of income she has with which she can cover her living expenses. Neither of her children support her financially, even though she could use the help.

The loan that she is asking for will be invested in purchasing modified seeds, which do not require as much water and require shorter growing time. With these seeds she will be able to grow her products more efficiently while also protecting the environment.

Valentina's dream is to one day also raise livestock, so that she can improve her income and her quality of life.

This is the first loan that she is asking for from IMPRO, and also her first time working with KIVA.

About IMPRO

IMPRO is a small non-profit organization that has been offering micro credit to the working poor in the Bolivian cities of La Paz and El Alto since 1995. IMPRO’s goal is to fight poverty by offering loans to small business owners who cannot access credit through the regular banking system due to a lack of guarantees or collateral.

To ensure that everyone has access to credit, IMPRO maintains a low interest rate by minimizing operational costs. IMPRO’s partnership with Kiva, which began in 2007, has allowed IMPRO to expand its services while maintaining these low interest rates.
