Abibe comes from the Roma community. She is a 41-year-old, married mother of three children between the ages of 12 and 22 years old. For more than five years now, she and her husband have been running a second-hand business selling used clothes and shoes. Usually they purchase these items from different foreign countries and then sell them in the big market outlet for all of Kosovo. They are both very satisfied with this business and are planning in the future to have their own boutique from which to sell clothing and shoes. At this time, they would like to have a loan in order to purchase more items to sell and increase their income and client base, which Abibe hopes will help her to be able to give her children a better education in the future. She really appreciates this support!

More information about this loan

This loan will support the economic aspirations of minority people in Kosovo. Roma people and ethnic Serbians have historically faced a tremendous amount of hardship in Kosovo, and are still socioeconomically and politically vulnerable. During the 1998-1999 war, the fighting displaced 250,000 people. Among those displaced were an estimated 80-90% of the region’s Roma population. Today, Roma and ethnic Serbians living in Kosovo still face discrimination and are excluded from many aspects of society, including fair political representation and high rates of unemployment. By supporting this loan you are helping provide opportunity to marginalized populations.
