Mena
Mena is married and has 2 children who are in school. They live in their own 2-bedroom home with brick walls and earthen floor, in the Palomar neigbourhood in the city of La Paz. Mena currently works in agriculture all day as it is her only source of income to pay for food, education and basic services for her family. Her husband went into the middle of the country and comes back every 2 - 3 months.

Mena wants to invest the loan in buying improved seed, since it will help her to save time, and production will be faster with less irrigation. This will save water and so contribute to the maintenance of the natural environment.

Mena's dream is to increase her income and also spend more time raising livestock and buying more land so that the business is more profitable, as it is her only source of income.

This is the first loan Mena has taken with IMPRO and also with Kiva.

About IMPRO

IMPRO is a small non-profit organization that has been offering micro credit to the working poor in the Bolivian cities of La Paz and El Alto since 1995. IMPRO’s goal is to fight poverty by offering loans to small business owners who cannot access credit through the regular banking system due to a lack of guarantees or collateral.

To ensure that everyone has access to credit, IMPRO maintains a low interest rate by minimizing operational costs. IMPRO’s partnership with Kiva, which began in 2007, has allowed IMPRO to expand its services while maintaining these low interest rates.
