Ruth
Ruth is 36 years old and has a common-law spouse. She is the mother of three children in different grades at a primary school in the community. Ruth did not complete primary school; she was able to go to school until the fourth grade. She is nevertheless grateful for the effort her parents made as they are people of few resources.

Her parents-in-law are also living with her, and they help out and contribute by watching their grandchildren while she and her partner are out tending to the coffee plants to give them the necessary care as much as possible. She and her partner own the field they cultivate, thanks to the effort they made to be able to buy a piece of land from her partner's parents, with which they are able to generate an income to sustain the family. The land is located near the house they live in, and they get there by walking a distance of 1.5 kilometers.

She has currently requested a loan through the COMIXMUL cooperative to buy compost, coffee formula fertilizer, fertilizers, liquid fertilizer, and other items to help and protect her coffee crop. She plans to use these items to reap a good harvest and an attractive bean for her clients. Her plans are to improve the land they cultivate together so that her coffee crop will maintain its foliage and healthy beans, which will allow them to make sure of the harvest. Her dream is like that of any mother, to support her children in their studies and to be able to send them to university so that they can get their degree, and that they don't live the same situation as she and her partner did in their own youth.

More information about this loan

These loans are designed for female farmers who produce a variety of products (onion, garlic, eggplant, spinach, mango, strawberries, etc.). Loan terms will vary depending on need, and borrowers can choose to make a "bullet" payment timed with harvest profits. Agricultural loans are considered risky in Honduras due to external forces like unpredictable weather and worldwide crop prices. As a result, many traditional financial institutions are unwilling to offer these loans. With Kiva funding, COMIXMUL will be able to reach more borrowers with agricultural loans tailored to their needs.
