Slavica
Slavica is 30 years old and the mother of two children, ages 4 and 6 years old. She lives in a minority community in the southern part of Kosovo. Her husband works as a guard for a private company.

Based on tradition, Slavica is involved in agriculture, earning money by working on her and her neighbor's land. She is a very hard worker and plants vegetables, corn, and wheat to harvest for her family's dietary needs, to sell for income, and to earn a fee harvesting and working her neighbor’s crops.

Slavica enjoys her work and is satisfied with what she does to help her family. At this time she is requesting a loan to buy tools and machinery to continue to plow and harvest the land. The loan will help her to work more effectively and efficiently, thereby generating more income to provide a better life for her family.

She is very grateful to KIVA lenders for the financial support given to help her family.

More information about this loan

This loan will support the economic aspirations of minority people in Kosovo. Roma people and ethnic Serbians have historically faced a tremendous amount of hardship in Kosovo, and are still socioeconomically and politically vulnerable. During the 1998-1999 war, the fighting displaced 250,000 people. Among those displaced were an estimated 80-90% of the region’s Roma population. Today, Roma and ethnic Serbians living in Kosovo still face discrimination and are excluded from many aspects of society, including fair political representation and high rates of unemployment. By supporting this loan you are helping provide opportunity to marginalized populations.
