Caterin Yuliana
Caterin comes from a humble family that lived in a town in southern Antioquia, but decided at age 20 to move to the city in search of opportunity to improve her life. After settling there and struggling to find work, Caterin had the chance to start her own business, opening a small internet cafe, then gradually acquiring paper goods and adding customers. Caterin is fortunate that her shop is located near a high school, which has helped the business. She now also sells ice cream, clothing, films, and video games, earning enough income to help her husband meet the household budget while caring for their eight-year-old son.

Caterin is an ambitious, dynamic, and persistent woman who is always looking for new opportunities to get ahead. This is her second loan and affords her the chance to increase her working capital. She has applied for this loan in order to purchase sufficient wholesale inventory (jeans, shirts, blouses, jerseys, and other garments), to meet her customers' demand. This is especially important with the Christmas holiday season approaching, when her customers tend to have more income to spend. Caterin thus hopes to keep striving with commitment and determination to meet her ambition of purchasing her own site for her business. She also hopes to boost her income and improve quality of life and living conditions for her and her loving family.

Important Information

This loan is structured on Kiva as a bullet loan, which means a single payment is required at the end of the loan term. By Colombian law, Kiva's partner Interactuar is required to offer borrowers loans with a variable interest rate that fluctuates with the market rate. Because fixed monthly payments are applied first to interest and then to principal, Interactuar is unable to predict upfront what portion of each repayment would go towards the loan principal. This creates a challenge with Kiva's system, which doesn't allow for unpredictable principal payments, and can result in some Interactuar clients appearing falsely delinquent. To remedy this, the loan has an end-of-term repayment plan on Kiva, but the borrower will continue scheduled monthly repayments to Interactuar, who will then pass along the principal amount to Kiva lenders. This means that you may see repayments made on this loan throughout the repayment term, as opposed to receiving repayment in full at the end of the loan term.
