Rosario Antonieta
Rosario, 47, is a very hardworking, tenacious married woman and mother of four minor children three of which attend the local school. She did not complete elementary school; she only got to 4th grade thanks to her parents’ moral and financial support despite the limitations and needs they had.

Rosario has been working growing potatoes for a long time; her parents taught her to work the land when she was very young and today she works alongside her husband. She has her own land because her parents passed down a piece of land to her that she’s gradually been enlarging and strengthening by means of purchases.

She and her husband walk 2 kilometers from home daily to reach their place of work and they strive together to care for and weed their crop in order to obtain an excellent harvest which is why at present she needs to request a loan to buy agricultural supplies and top quality seeds to grow potatoes and at the same time provide them with technical assistance.

She dreams in future with being able to buy more land to plant and grow larger amounts of potatoes to generate higher income so she can provide her children with a better education as well as to strengthen their estate.

More information about this loan

These loans are designed for female farmers who produce a variety of products (onion, garlic, eggplant, spinach, mango, strawberries, etc.). Loan terms will vary depending on need, and borrowers can choose to make a "bullet" payment timed with harvest profits. Agricultural loans are considered risky in Honduras due to external forces like unpredictable weather and worldwide crop prices. As a result, many traditional financial institutions are unwilling to offer these loans. With Kiva funding, COMIXMUL will be able to reach more borrowers with agricultural loans tailored to their needs.
