Maria Antonia
María Antonia is an enterprising young woman of 30. She is married and has two young children. She was unable to finish primary school, despite her parents’ efforts, because of her family’s meager financial resources.
For 10 years, María Antonia has been working as a farmer with her husband. They mostly grow coffee. Every morning she and her husband walk 30 minutes to their fields, where they work hard to weed and fertilize their crops so they will have an excellent harvest.
She needs financing so she can buy agricultural supplies for her coffee crop, including manure, fertilizer, and other products.
She dreams that one day she will expand her farm, growing and harvesting larger quantities of coffee so she can earn more money to help her family get ahead. She wants to provide her children with a better education than she was able to get because of economic circumstances, and she also hopes to build a legacy that they will inherit.

More information about this loan

These loans are designed for female farmers who produce a variety of products (onion, garlic, eggplant, spinach, mango, strawberries, etc.). Loan terms will vary depending on need, and borrowers can choose to make a "bullet" payment timed with harvest profits. Agricultural loans are considered risky in Honduras due to external forces like unpredictable weather and worldwide crop prices. As a result, many traditional financial institutions are unwilling to offer these loans. With Kiva funding, COMIXMUL will be able to reach more borrowers with agricultural loans tailored to their needs.
