Sorphorn, a rural villager from Kampong Chnang province's Kampong Leng District where rice farming is a popular business in the neighborhood, is 37 years old and she has three children, two of whom are still in school. Sorphorn has been growing sesame and also selling fish and grocery items. The current business earns her about $55 per day but she can save about $7 each day after daily expenses.

This is her first cycle as a client with VIsionFund. Now she is applying for a loan to pay the tuition fee for her son’s university. She greatly hopes that this loan will enable her to send her oldest son to university to obtain a higher education and end up with a good job after graduation in order to support the family.

About VisionFund Cambodia

VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.

Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
