Her husband is a merchant. With the first loan she received from Manuela Ramos of S/. 300, Libaña decided to invest in the sale of prepared dishes and cold beverages.

Currently, she runs two businesses, one is in her home through the sale of sodas. She does this in the mornings, then her husband takes over in the afternoons while she goes to tend to her stand situated close to the entrance of the Kola Real soda factory. There, she sells sandwiches, pastries and a variety of cold beverages. Libaña also sells beauty products.

With this loan of S/. 2,000, which will be repaid in 4 months, she will purchase sodas, candy, ingredients for her pastries, as well as beauty products.

Libaña is very creative, and so she looks for ways of obtaining a higher income. She feels very happy and satisfied about her achievements thanks to the effort she places daily. She is very grateful to the Manuela Ramos movement for the opportunity to receive this loan since it is also very supportive of women business owners.

Update on your loan recipient, Libaña Tipto from Pucallpa, Peru

Entrepreneur: Libaña Tipto De Rios
Location: Callería - Ucayali, Peru

Last week I visited Libaña at her home and business to get an update on how things have been going for her. Libaña continues to sell beauty products, soft drinks, snacks and beer. Recently she stopped going to the Kola Real factory to sell her sandwiches due to health problems. She is now thinking of turning the front part of her house into a real shop in order to avoid having to travel to another location to work. Though she is no longer selling near Kola Real, Libaña is still collecting payments from some of the factory workers, to whom she had sold her sandwiches on credit.

Libaña is currently paying back a loan of 2000 soles (about $665) from Kiva partner Manuela Ramos through her communal bank, "La Familia" (The Family). She used her loan to purchase more products for sale. Libaña was one of the founding members of her communal bank (which used to consist mostly of members of the Tipto family, hence the name) 10 years ago. Libaña is considering leaving Manuela Ramos, however, due to the fact that there are several members of her communal bank who have not been paying back their loans. This lack of payment negatively impacts all of the bank's members, even those who do pay on time. Other bank members cannot take out additional loans until delinquent borrowers pay back; if these borrowers never pay back, their unpaid loan will be drawn from the savings of other bank members. Libaña told me that she is very responsible with her loans-- she has never once gotten behind on her payments.

Libaña is married and has three children, all of whom are adults. Her two daughters both studied education and one of them runs a spare parts shop out of Libaña's home. This daughter is also a Manuela Ramos borrower and is the official treasurer for "La Familia." Libaña's husband takes care of the small farm that the family has out in the countryside, where they keep cows.
