Mahugnon is a group of sixteen persons, whose members live in the same neighborhood. The representative of the group, Marie (whose hand is raised in the photo), is 58 years old and is married to René.

The couple has four children, all attending (or having attended) school and who are their dependents. In addition to their children, the couple has another child under their care. Mary lives together with her children and her husband. The couple shares the various household expenses.

For nearly ten years Marie has been preparing food (corn dough, fried fish) she sells in her neighborhood. Mary gets her supplies from one of Benin's markets.

This is the first time that Mary and the other members of the Mahugnon group seek financial support from ALIDé, to bolster their working capital and their activity, and better meet the needs of their customers.

MAHUGNON est un groupement de seize personnes, dont les membres résident dans le même quartier. La représentante du groupe, Marie (dont la main est levée sur la photo), est âgée de 58 ans et est mariée à un certain René. Le couple a quatre enfants, tous scolarisés et à leur charge. En plus de leurs enfants, le couple a un autre enfant à leur charge. Marie vit ensemble avec ses enfants et son mari. Le couple assure ensemble les différentes charges de la maison. Depuis près de dix ans, Marie prépare de la nourriture (pâte de maïs, poissons frits) qu’elle vend dans son quartier. Marie s’approvisionne dans un marché du Bénin. C’est la première fois que Marie et les autres membres du groupe MAHUGNON sollicitent l’appui financier de ALIDé en vue de renforcer leur fonds de roulement et leur activité et de mieux répondre aux exigences de leur clientèle.

About Alidé

Alidé is a Beninese NGO that works to reduce poverty by offering sustainable access to productive loans like this one in addition to savings, training sessions, and social work to low-income families.

Supporters of this loan should be aware that there is some risk of being repaid late. Because the Beninois Ministry of Finance has imposed restrictions on the amount of money Alidé can send to Kiva, the organization can only send monthly repayments in installments smaller than $13,000. This means that some Kiva lenders may receive their repayments late. However, Alidé remains a healthy institution in good standing with its creditors, and Kiva would like to continue working to support its clients. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee.
