Sinat
Sinat is a citizen from a rural area located in Kampong Cham Province’s Kang Meas District, where farming rice is a common business to make a living. She is married, and is the 52-year-old mother of three children. One of her children is at school. To feed her household, she earns a living through farming rice and growing vegetables. Her husband is a construction worker in the local area to supplement the income. She and her husband are able to earn up to US $7 per day from this business, in which she has been working for 17 years. She can manage to save only US $3 each day for future needs.

Sinat has been with VisionFund for three cycles, and she completely repaid the loan. Now, she is asking for an education loan to pay the tuition fee for four years of her son’s bachelor degree majoring in information technology.

Sinat hopes that her son will have a good and bright future from this academic study, and will earn a better living in the future.

This loan is part of VisionFund Cambodia’s higher education program, designed to provide financing to students in poor households who otherwise lack the financial support to continue their studies. Very few students have the financial resources necessary to go to college. VisionFund Cambodia has designed a lower-interest rate loan product for students, given the financial benefits associated with financing this loan upfront on Kiva. It is disbursed to the borrower in annual installments.
