The communal association "CIPRES VILAQUE" is going to start its first cycle with Pro Mujer, as part of the Centro Focal de Patacamaya. It has eight members and is led by a management team where Petrona is the president. The businesses that the members run are varied: dressmaking, sale of potatoes and potato starch, sale of livestock, bakery, sale of sweaters, chicken breeding, etc.

The loan will benefit small microentrepreneurs, Petrona among them. This is her first time with Pro Mujer, after being invited by an adviser of the institution who visited her at her home. She currently has a business of livestock breeding (cows). She learned the business from her parents, whom she helped when she was a little girl.

She will use the loan to invest in capital (cows) that she will buy in communities close to where she lives. She will then breed them and sell milk in her retail space. This allows her to generate enough resources to support her household, as she lives with her partner and has one child.

When she is asked about what she likes in Pro Mujer, she says she likes that loans are given without so many requirements.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
