The group Las Flores de Nuevo Amanecer [The Flowers of the New Dawn] will begin its fourth loan cycle with the nonprofit Pro Mujer as part of the village bank “Centro Focal de Villa Adela”. The group is made up of eight members and is led by a board of governors, where Susana is the Secretary.
The businesses of the members of the communal bank are varied, and include selling meat, making blankets, selling typical skirts, selling used furniture, dressmaking, selling mobile phones, selling vegetables and selling food.

The loan they will take out will benefit small-scale businesswomen, one of whom is Susana. She states that a year ago she joined Pro Mujer through the invitation of a friend who is a member of the institution. Currently, she has a business selling food. She says that she started this business on her own initiative several years before, because she needed a way of generating income, and this product is the one that sells most often.

The loan she is now taking out is to grow her capital by buying rice, oil, noodles and canned goods through the wholesale shops in El Alto. After production, she will sell her product at her food stall. This form of work enables her to generate income to maintain her household as far as possible, since she is married and has seven children.

When asked what she likes about Pro Mujer, she answers that she enjoys sharing with the team.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
