Yom
Yom, a rural villager from Takeo province's Bati district where silk weaving is a popular business in the neighborhood, is 46 years old and she has three children, one of whom is still in school. Yom is a silk weaver while her husband is a motor taxi driver. Having engaged in this business for 10 years, Yom is able to save up to 9 US dollars per day from her current business after deducting the expenses.

This is the first-cycle loan for Yom with Kiva's partner, VisionFund. She is applying for an education loan to cover the entire tuition fee for four years for her daughter, an 18-year-old freshman in a local university specializing in Accounting. She sincerely hopes that this loan will enable her to send her daughter to university and also help her daughter to obtain a higher education background and end up with a good job after graduation in order to support the family.

It is disbursed to the borrower in annual installments.

About VisionFund Cambodia

VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.

Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
