Ligaya, age 50, is from Binoongan, Enrique Villanueva, Siquijor, Philippines. She is married, with one child who is adult-aged.
Paglaum Multi-Purpose Cooperative (PMPC) supported her by providing the capital to start her pig-raising business. She sold one pig at a time, helping the family survive. She gives her best efforts to produce good pigs, in order to sell them continuously.
Through PMPC, Ligaya obtained the capital to purchase her original piglets and feed. Now, she requests a loan of PHP 14,900 to buy additional feed. She really hopes and prays that her business will grow and benefit her family, in addition to the income of her husband.
Someday, Ligaya wants to build a concrete pig cage to easily maintain more sanitary conditions.
About Paglaum Multi-Purpose Cooperative
Paglaum Multi-Purpose Cooperative (PMPC) was founded in 1992 by the beneficiaries, parents and staff of the Paglaum Community Development Foundation to address economic and livelihood activities for sustainability. The organization operates in the northwestern provinces of Mindanao and Visayas.
In the local vernacular, “paglaum” means “hope.” The initial foundation is dedicated to child development through a holistic approach. The goal is to build self-reliance and expand opportunity so the poorest of the poor can help themselves.
