Blanca Nubia
Blanca is a 58 year old who is a single mother of three children, whom she has brought up alone, with income generated from the sale of food that she prepares herself. She initially started preparing food from her home and then, thanks to the mayor of her municipality, she received permission to sell her products at a kiosk located in a busy area of town. There she offers products such as tamales, fried foods, snacks, sodas, among other items.

She works every day from 6:00 am to 7:00 pm and has the support of her daughter. She is currently requesting a loan in order to make adjustments in the business that are required by health authorities (to make a smooth cement board ) and buy supplies in bulk (vegetables, meat, oil, sauces, sodas, snacks, among other items). This way she will improve her working conditions and increase sales, which means she will have more income to continue ensuring the welfare of her children. Also her business will look better and attract more customers.

Blanca wants to continue working hard and in the near future hopes that a well known soda company will give her the opportunity of having a much bigger kiosk to better serve her customers and to improve the profitability of the establishment. This will provide a better quality of life for her family and she will be able to enjoy a peaceful old age, with economic stability.

Important Information

This loan is structured on Kiva as a bullet loan, which means a single payment is required at the end of the loan term. By Colombian law, Kiva's partner Interactuar is required to offer borrowers loans with a variable interest rate that fluctuates with the market rate. Because fixed monthly payments are applied first to interest and then to principal, Interactuar is unable to predict upfront what portion of each repayment would go towards the loan principal. This creates a challenge with Kiva's system, which doesn't allow for unpredictable principal payments, and can result in some Interactuar clients appearing falsely delinquent. To remedy this, the loan has an end-of-term repayment plan on Kiva, but the borrower will continue scheduled monthly repayments to Interactuar, who will then pass along the principal amount to Kiva lenders. This means that you may see repayments made on this loan throughout the repayment term, as opposed to receiving repayment in full at the end of the loan term.
