Fighting for a better future? We need your help.

Creating a more equitable world takes a lot of time and energy, but at Kiva we’re in it for the long haul. 100% of money lent on Kiva goes to funding loans. That means we rely on donations from people like you to make this work possible. For a limited time, if you donate $35 or more, a $25 bonus will be added to your account (you’ll get an email once it’s there).

A loan of $1,600 helped to buy products for facial masks, and Yanbal products.

Ana Margarita's story

The "24 de diciembre" communal bank meets every fortnight in the Montecristi canton, an area known for its rich, pre-colonial culture, and its artisan products that are known at both a national and international level. It is from here that the famous straw hat originates.

It is here that Ana lives. She is 52 years old, married and has two children, now adults. One of her children still lives at home. Ana's husband is a security guard.

Ana is a feisty woman who likes to make use of her time and skills in order to get ahead through her work. Ana works giving facial treatments, and also sells Yanbal products (beauty products, make-up, perfumes, and women's accessories). She works from her own home or does home visits for the facial treatments, and offers her customers Yanbal products. Ana has been doing this work for seven years and it allows her to help her household to prosper.

Ana will use this loan to buy products for facial masks, and Yanbal products. Ana has been with the communal bank since the beginning and she likes it as the loans have helped her to get ahead.

Ana's dream is to have a spa.
