Sandra Maritza
Sandra completed primary school supported by her parents´ effort and determination, which enabled her to study and get her primary school education. She is married and the mother of four children who collaborate with their parents to do different work on the coffee crops, such as cleaning, compost application, and other things that are necessary to help keep the crops attractive.

She has been a farmer since she was very young, thanks to her parents´ traditions. Her clients are the grocery stores around the area where she lives, middle-men who come to the area, and neighbors of the area who purchase her products so that they can acquire them at the end of each harvest and re-sell them. The land she works with the help of her husband is her own property, thanks to an inheritance from her parents. It is located 30 minutes away, and they walk to it daily.

She has requested financing from the COMIXMUL cooperative for the purchase of 800 units of coffee seedlings for cultivation, eight sacks of compost, six liters of liquid fertilizer, six liters of boron, and 90 loads of coffee for cultivating, with which she hopes to be able to expand her harvest and build up her children´s inheritance.

Her future plans are to improve her coffee harvests, strengthening them with the different supplies she will buy, and planting new small coffee plants in order to increase her crop output and meet greater demand. As a mother she plans to offer her children a better education, a better lifestyle, and a solid inheritance for the future.

More information about this loan

These loans are designed for female farmers who produce a variety of products (onion, garlic, eggplant, spinach, mango, strawberries, etc.). Loan terms will vary depending on need, and borrowers can choose to make a "bullet" payment timed with harvest profits. Agricultural loans are considered risky in Honduras due to external forces like unpredictable weather and worldwide crop prices. As a result, many traditional financial institutions are unwilling to offer these loans. With Kiva funding, COMIXMUL will be able to reach more borrowers with agricultural loans tailored to their needs.
