Yenis Marcela
Yenis Marcela, age 35, is a housewife and a farmer. She has two children, and they live at home. One of them is in high school studying electromechanics. The youngest is in elementary school. When they leave their activities both children help their parents with the different agricultural jobs that they do.

She has nine years of education. She is grateful for the support in all aspects that her parents gave her in her youth. She and her life partner, a farmer, have worked together in this business activity for many years. It was through self-interest that she decided to learn to work the land. The land that she works with her life partner is her own. She got it thanks to a purchase they made from one of their customers. He facilitated their getting their own land to work. The land is located 20 minutes from her house, and they get there by walking.

She now needs financial support to buy agricultural supplies to protect her coffee crops. At the end of the harvest she plans to sell the grain and get income to reinvest in her crops.

Her plans and dreams for the future are to buy more land in order to be able to continue growing coffee. She plans to offer a better variety like ‘caturra’ and ‘lempira’, etc. These are competitive products in the market, and they are the most attractive to her customers. She plans on supporting her children’s education to the maximum so that they are able to graduate and fulfill themselves at one point in their lives.

More information about this loan

These loans are designed for female farmers who produce a variety of products (onion, garlic, eggplant, spinach, mango, strawberries, etc.). Loan terms will vary depending on need, and borrowers can choose to make a "bullet" payment timed with harvest profits. Agricultural loans are considered risky in Honduras due to external forces like unpredictable weather and worldwide crop prices. As a result, many traditional financial institutions are unwilling to offer these loans. With Kiva funding, COMIXMUL will be able to reach more borrowers with agricultural loans tailored to their needs.
