Maria Romana
María Romana is very happy because she was able to use her first loan to buy supplies needed for her pineapple crop that she was able to apply and get a good, healthy harvest as a result. She had excellent pineapple production that she was able to sell for a very good price as planned and she was able to repay her loan.

Profits were very good and she reinvested part of them into her crops and the other part was used to prepare the soil once again, to clear weeds for the next planting and to pay labor costs to plant a bit more. There was a change in her business because production improved thanks to the initial loan and so did her quality of life because she earned the expected income and even surpassed it.

This time she’s decided on a second loan to increase production because she’s unable to fully meet customer demand with the amount she’s currently growing. She hopes to be helped again to continue enjoying the benefits that Comixmul cooperative in alliance with KIVA provides to support people of scarce resources.

More information about this loan

These loans are designed for female farmers who produce a variety of products (onion, garlic, eggplant, spinach, mango, strawberries, etc.). Loan terms will vary depending on need, and borrowers can choose to make a "bullet" payment timed with harvest profits. Agricultural loans are considered risky in Honduras due to external forces like unpredictable weather and worldwide crop prices. As a result, many traditional financial institutions are unwilling to offer these loans. With Kiva funding, COMIXMUL will be able to reach more borrowers with agricultural loans tailored to their needs.
