Maria Erlinda
María Erlinda’s a hardworking, enterprising woman who is very dedicated to her work and to her family. She’s 46-years-old, married and mother of two children who are in different grades in primary school. She completed secondary school and graduated as a primary school teacher. She teaches at a local primary school and when she’s not at school helps her husband with field chores like weeding, applying manure and leaf fertilizer, etc. She learned said tasks at a very young age for her parents taught her to work the land since they’ve worked in agriculture their entire lives. She and her husband do the various field chores together and support each other in agriculture as a family unit; their fields are near their house. Her product is sold and traded in the local market in a small scale to various local sellers.

She’s currently asking for help to buy supplies that will improve her coffee crop and insure a good harvest to generate family income. Her plans and future goals are to expand her acreage buying more land to work and to strengthen her future children's estate. Her dream is to see her children fulfilled and graduated from university since this is the way to form them academically and give them the security and confidence to be able to flourish in the future.

More information about this loan

These loans are designed for female farmers who produce a variety of products (onion, garlic, eggplant, spinach, mango, strawberries, etc.). Loan terms will vary depending on need, and borrowers can choose to make a "bullet" payment timed with harvest profits. Agricultural loans are considered risky in Honduras due to external forces like unpredictable weather and worldwide crop prices. As a result, many traditional financial institutions are unwilling to offer these loans. With Kiva funding, COMIXMUL will be able to reach more borrowers with agricultural loans tailored to their needs.
