Kimleang is 36 years old and a married mother of six children. Nowadays, she needs to support only one daughter who is still in school. Her main sources of income are from rice farming and her husband's business as a house builder. This is not the first loan for Kimleang with VisionFund (Kiva’s partner). The past loan enabled her to upgrade her lifestyle better than before. For this cycle, she is applying for an education loan to cover her daughter’s tuition fee. She hopes that she can fulfill her daughter's dream of holding a Bachelor's degree specializing in Engineering.

More information about this loan

This loan is part of VisionFund Cambodia’s higher education program, designed to provide financing to students in poor households who otherwise lack the financial support to continue their studies. Very few students have the financial resources necessary to go to college. VisionFund Cambodia has designed a lower-interest rate loan product for students, given the financial benefits associated with financing this loan upfront on Kiva. It is disbursed to the borrower in annual installments.

About VisionFund Cambodia

VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.

Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
