Becoming an engineer has always been Sokmaly’s dream. Sokmaly was accepted into Mekong Cambodia University and now, with the chance to achieve his dream, he is concerned about affording tuition fees. As he explains, his parents are farmers and earn about $6 daily. This income is used for the family’s daily expenses only. To reach his goal, Sokmaly is asking for a loan of $2,100 to pay for his tuition fees. With a degree in engineering, he hopes to get a high paid job in a private company. In addition, with money he earns, he hopes he can support his family much better.

This loan is part of KREDIT’s higher education program, targeted to poor, low-income, and middle-income students who would otherwise not have the means to attain a higher education. With Kiva funding, KREDIT has designed a new product to cater to the needs of students.  KREDIT believes that all students, regardless of income, should have educational opportunities and sees developing human capital as vital to Cambodia’s future.
