Roopchand
Roopchand is 35 years old, and he has done rice cultivation from an early age. He is married, has two young children and lives in a rented house.

In 2010 he purchased, with the support of Seva MFI, a tractor and expanded his rice paddies. He is planting only on rented plots. Rice cultivation is his only source of income. He has approached Seva MFI for a loan of SRD 10,000 to purchase pesticides and fertilizer.

Roopchand's dream is to buy a plot and build a home for his family. For this, he has been trying to save.

More information about this loan

This loan is part of Seva's effort to reach marginalized rice farmers who are excluded from Suriname's traditional banking system. This type of loan is designed to help agricultural entrepreneurs become self sustainable. This is especially important in Suriname, where microfinance is limited. These loans provide farmers with the opportunity to thrive in a country where rural and agricultural businesses are considered to be too risky for commercial loans.
