Communal Bank “Flor de Damasco” is in its first cycle with Pro Mujer in the regional office of Patacamaya. The group is composed of twelve members and run by a board where Delia is the president. The members have different activities, such as growing fruits, making baskets and a butcher’s shop.

The loan they are requesting will help micro entrepreneurs such as Delia. She says this is the first time she is part of Pro Mujer and that she joined when a friend who is a member invited her. Delia grows fruits, an activity she learned when she was a little girl, as it is very common in her community.

With this loan she will buy compost from nearby localities and use it for her plantations. This business leaves her resources with which she tries her best to maintain her family, since she lives in a common-law marriage and has a son. She says that what she likes the most about Pro Mujer are the training sessions and the possibility to save some money.

Additional Information

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
