They have run their small businesses for several years and there is a strong demand for their products. In order to satisfy the growing demands of their customers, the group members decided to use the loan programme of Soro Yiriwaso three years ago. This will be their sixth group loan.

Niagale is the president of the group and is well-known and much appreciated in Tiele, for the delicious, high-quality food that she prepares. She intends to use this loan to buy ingredients (onions, cabbage), meat and rice for her catering business. She buys her supplies in Bamako and locally, from wholesalers, and sells her meals in Tiele through retail, cash and credit sales to both men and women. She hopes to use her predicted, monthly earnings of 25,000 francs CFA to repay her loan and reinvest in her business.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
