This group is composed of 27 women who live in the same village. Their work involves sewing, hairstyling, and commerce.

Ms. Ndéye Khady is the group's representative. She is a 28-years-old married woman and a mother with a daughter. Ms. Ndéye Khady has been styling hair at her home since 2004 and has a fair amount of experience. In the photo, she is the one standing at the right and dressed in orange with her left hand raised.

Her loan will be used to purchase some hair extensions, wigs, and cosmetics; she can establish a good customer base, since there are not enough hair salons in her town.

With the profits, she saves money in the system and at a local bank, and she supports her family.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
