Kaberi Self Help Group is a group consisting of 10 members, all of whom are women. These entrepreneurs are very humble, hardworking and responsible people with good manners and lots of enthusiasm to improve their lives. A few years back, they were all facing the same poverty, so they planned to start a vegetable business where they can provide fresh, quality vegetables to their customers.

One of them is Mrs. Rina, who was selected as their president. Rina is a 39-year-old lady living with her husband and her two children, who are students. Her husband works as a labourer in a factory situated near her village. She produces and sells vegetables to her customer and has developed a very good relationship with her customers in the village and nearby market. She likes the fact that she can cater to the needs of the people in her village and nearby market. She has a plan to make her vegetable business bigger and produce more higher quality vegetables to satisfy her customers. She, along with her group, has requested a loan amount of 180,000 INR to purchase high quality seeds and fertilizers.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
