Dilia Nancy
47-year old Dilia has a son and lives with her husband. As a young woman she learned how to sew thanks to her mother who was a seamstress for many years. Four years ago Dilia opened her own workshop where she offers her services to other businesses. However, wishing to improve her income, she now wants to develop her own line of clothing as she has several good contacts where she can sell the items.

As a result Dilia is now seeking a loan because she wants to buy fabric, thread, and a sewing machine so she can begin making her own designs. She will be able to earn more money because sometimes the other businesses haven’t paid for her services or don’t value the hard work that she has put in and pay very little.

Dilia’s dream is to have a successful business with her own line of clothing, have many customers, and earn more money so she can help her husband pay for household expenses. She would also be able to support her son through university and provide her family with a better standard of living.

Important Information

This loan is structured on Kiva as a bullet loan, which means a single payment is required at the end of the loan term. By Colombian law, Kiva's partner Interactuar is required to offer borrowers loans with a variable interest rate that fluctuates with the market rate. Because fixed monthly payments are applied first to interest and then to principal, Interactuar is unable to predict upfront what portion of each repayment would go towards the loan principal. This creates a challenge with Kiva's system, which doesn't allow for unpredictable principal payments, and can result in some Interactuar clients appearing falsely delinquent. To remedy this, the loan has an end-of-term repayment plan on Kiva, but the borrower will continue scheduled monthly repayments to Interactuar, who will then pass along the principal amount to Kiva lenders. This means that you may see repayments made on this loan throughout the repayment term, as opposed to receiving repayment in full at the end of the loan term.
