Isis Marilia
Isis Marilia is 29 years old. She is feisty, enterprising and has a strong desire to overcome obstacles and get ahead. Isis has a partner and is a mother to four children. The children support Isis with her work in the country, helping with cleaning, cutting, and laying manure and fertiliser on the coffee crops. Isis only completed up to fourth grade but could not continue in education as her parents had little money and could not help her. Since her childhood, Isis has made a living growing coffee, work which her family did before her. This work is Isis' only source of income. Her parents taught her to work the land many years ago. Isis inherited their land from her parents some time ago, and it helps support the household and cover costs such as food, clothing, school costs, medicines and the like. The land is 20 minutes away from where the family lives, and can be arrived at on foot.

Isis is currently applying for a loan to buy fertiliser and manure to maintain her coffee crops. With this she will have a healthy and good harvest to generate an income, earn a profit, and will be able to continue investing in her work.

Isis' goal are to be able to grow more plants so as to earn a higher income for family. She could then invest more and expand her harvests. Isis' profits will be used to give her children a future and to further invest in her land.

More information about this loan

These loans are designed for female farmers who produce a variety of products (onion, garlic, eggplant, spinach, mango, strawberries, etc.). Loan terms will vary depending on need, and borrowers can choose to make a "bullet" payment timed with harvest profits. Agricultural loans are considered risky in Honduras due to external forces like unpredictable weather and worldwide crop prices. As a result, many traditional financial institutions are unwilling to offer these loans. With Kiva funding, COMIXMUL will be able to reach more borrowers with agricultural loans tailored to their needs.
