The members of the group make their living in a variety of ways, including selling towels, running a neighborhood shop, running a beauty salon, weaving blankets, selling CDs and DVDs, selling fish, selling lingerie, and selling cleaning products.

Their loan will help the people of the group, including Hilda, with their businesses. Hilda says she joined Pro Mujer two years ago at the invitation of a friend who is also a member. At the moment she has a business selling lingerie, which she started several years ago.

She will use this loan to increase her working capital and buy more clothing, which she purchases from wholesalers in the city of El Alto and then sells in her own shop. The work allows her to earn more income to support her household, since she is married and has two children.

When asked what she likes about Pro Mujer, she says that she likes the saving, the loans, and the health services that the institution offers.

Additional Information

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
