Akper is a 55-year-old married man. He lives with his wife, son, daughter-in-law and three grandchildren in a small village in the Marneuli district. His wife is a teacher at a local school and gets 350 GEL per month. Akper is involved in agricultural activities. In particular, he has a greenhouse where tomatoes are grown. He works hard to insure a good harvest, which is sold to local retailers. As the income is not enough for such a big family, Akper decided to request a loan to purchase a cow. The Start Up program, which is a joint initiative with Kiva and Credo, enables him to get a loan of 2000 GEL to purchase a cow. As the cow is purchased, the family will start producing dairy products and they will be able to increase the income of their family.
