Simouy is 42 years old and a married mother of four children who are in school. She tackles rice farming for a living while her husband works at a construction site to supplement her income. This is the business that she has had for 10 years, earning about 37,800 KHR per day. This not the first loan for Simouy with Kiva partner VisionFund. She has repaid her past loans with success to improve her living conditions and keep her kids in school. For this cycle, she is seeking a new loan of 1,200,000 KHR in order to buy fertilizer and rice seed for her farmland. She hopes to gain a good yield from her crop and triple her income.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
