Luz Viviana
Luz is a single mother of a nine-year-old son. She’s currently employed as a saleswoman in a firm and to earn extra money works weekends in a stand selling snacks, soft-drinks, coffee, fried food, tamales and lunches. In this ways he earns the resources to sustain her family.

She’s an enterprising, driven, active woman who strives constantly to move her son forward. Because of this she wants to take advantage of an opportunity that’s come up to buy the stand she works in to start an independent business of her own and to manage her time and generate income on her own.

This is the reason why she’s asking for a loan to buy fixed assets (refrigerator, microwave oven, stove and shelving) and supplies in general (snacks, soft-drinks, meat, vegetables, cakes, turnovers, etc.) to start her productive project.

Luz hopes to strengthen and make her business known in order to gradually advance towards reaching her main goal of having a restaurant or a well-stocked store that will lead to higher income to give her son a better education and in future be able to enjoy better living conditions.

Important Information

This loan is structured on Kiva as a bullet loan, which means a single payment is required at the end of the loan term. By Colombian law, Kiva's partner Interactuar is required to offer borrowers loans with a variable interest rate that fluctuates with the market rate. Because fixed monthly payments are applied first to interest and then to principal, Interactuar is unable to predict upfront what portion of each repayment would go towards the loan principal. This creates a challenge with Kiva's system, which doesn't allow for unpredictable principal payments, and can result in some Interactuar clients appearing falsely delinquent. To remedy this, the loan has an end-of-term repayment plan on Kiva, but the borrower will continue scheduled monthly repayments to Interactuar, who will then pass along the principal amount to Kiva lenders. This means that you may see repayments made on this loan throughout the repayment term, as opposed to receiving repayment in full at the end of the loan term.
