Benson lives in the Kitale area in the South-Rift area of Kenya. He is married and has eight children, five of whom are still in school. He has practiced mixed farming for 20 years. His main sources of income are: coffee, bananas, maize, and milk.
He wants to venture more into dairy farming, and thus has requested from Juhudi Kilimo a loan of KES 62,400 to purchase a dairy cow. He says that an increase in dairy cows will lead to an increase in income, thus enable him to educate his children better and improve his family's living standards.
The challenge he faces in these is how to deal with the livestock pests and diseases.
Benson says that in the near future, he would want to venture more into dairy farming. He appreciates Juhudi Kilimo for their good work.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
