Charles
Charles is a 49-year-old man who lives in the rural area of Kyakatuuma town, in the central region of Uganda.

He is in business of cattle fattening, and he does cattle trading at the same time. He has done this business for the past 20 years. He sells his goods to fellow traders all around. He says he has managed to extend his farm land acreage, allowing him to input more cows for fattening. He also says the loan facility with Ugafode has enabled him to push his children to higher levels of learning.

He hopes to use the facility advanced to him to buy more cows for fattening and also to trade more cows. He also wishes to use some of the money to renovate his dilapidated cow fences to avoid his cows straying onto neighbors’ land.

He confesses to challenges of long drought periods that affect his cattle and also the foot and mouth disease that affects his herd during the rainy seasons.

More information about this loan

This loan is part of UGAFODE's program for clients who live in isolated rural areas with limited access to financial services. Uniquely, UGAFODE focuses its efforts on agricultural areas in Uganda that are over 50 km from their branches, providing loans to both groups and individual borrowers. The organization believes that the risk of offering services to remote clients is outweighed by the benefits to customers and their often underserved communities.
