Carlos Luis
Carlos, age 25, is married. He lives with his wife, who is his greatest priority. He will use the loan to buy what is needed to start his project, a small eatery. A little while ago he built a place near a school. He did this in order to provide food service to the students who go to this place. He hopes to be able to generate good clientele and in that way generate income in order to get ahead with the loan and generate income or savings for his future.

This is his first loan with FUDECOSUR. He has not had any other loans with state banks. FUDECOSUR has provided him with the loan with the better terms and a much lower interest rate.

Additional Information

More information about this loan

FUDECOSUR works in one of the poorest regions of Costa Rica, where microfinance institutions (MFIs) are scarce or have a hard time keeping up with demand for small loans. By providing mostly agricultural loans, FUDECOSUR reaches rural borrowers that many MFIs consider to be too risky. However, this has also made it more difficult for the organization to find stable sources of capital to lend. Kiva's flexible, risk-tolerant capital plays a critical role in helping FUDECOSUR grow its portfolio and support even more borrowers.
