Residing in the Stoeung Sen district of Kompong Thom province, Leang is 43 years old and married. She has three children, one of whom is still in school. Leang has struggled to make a living by working as a tailor in the village. She has been engaged in this business for 10 years and is able to earn up to US $8 per day. However, she is able to save only US $3 each day after expenses.

Leang is applying as a first-time borrower with VisionFund for a loan to pay school fees for her daughter, who studies finance and banking. She hopes that the loan will allow her to keep her daughter in university to pursue her degree so that she will find a good job after graduation.

About VisionFund Cambodia

VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.

Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
