Johan
Johan is in a common-law marriage and lives with his wife and children, who are his main priority. With this loan, he will buy supplies for his coffee plantations to improve his plants. He has a plantation in production, and last year it went very well but his coffee plants were left in bad condition, so he will invest in organic fertilizers to improve his crops. He hopes to be able to get a better harvest and generate earnings for the welfare of his family. This is the second loan that he has received from Fudecosur. He had not taken loans before from the state banks, but Fudecosur provided him with a loan with better payment terms and a much lower interest rate.

More information about this loan

FUDECOSUR works in one of the poorest regions of Costa Rica, where microfinance institutions (MFIs) are scarce or have a hard time keeping up with demand for small loans. By providing mostly agricultural loans, FUDECOSUR reaches rural borrowers that many MFIs consider to be too risky. However, this has also made it more difficult for the organization to find stable sources of capital to lend. Kiva's flexible, risk-tolerant capital plays a critical role in helping FUDECOSUR grow its portfolio and support even more borrowers.
